BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:15 P.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS) launched a powerful offensive on Friday that targeted the Al-Hawiqah District of Deir Ezzor City.
Unable to advance against the Syrian Arab Army, the Islamic State was forced to withdraw their assault in order to avoid suffering anymore losses in the Al-Hawiqah District.
Not long after the Islamic State ended their assault on Al-Hawiqah, the Syrian Arab Army launched a powerful attack around the 137th Artillery Brigade base in western Deir Ezzor.
According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army managed to liberate several points around the 137th Artillery Brigade Base, inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy defenses.
Intense clashes are still ongoing in the western part of Deir Ezzor, as the Syrian Arab Army attempts to lift the siege on the military airport.
