BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:55 P.M.) – The two month long battle in Al-Qaboun has concluded following Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham’s surrender of the district to the Syrian government forces.
While the jihadist rebels have not left Al-Qaboun yet, the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) High Command has already begun deploying units from the 4th Mechanized Division and Republican Guard to the neighboring districts of Harasta and Jobar.
Unlike Al-Qaboun, the districts of Jobar and Harasta have been in a perpetual state of war for the last five years, as both the Syrian Arab Army and jihadist rebels have traded several offensives in the past.
The 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard, National Defense Forces (NDF), and Palestine Liberation Army (PLA) are already inside of Jobar; however, the elite 42nd Brigade (Ghiath Forces) of the 4th Mechanized Division is expected to lead the upcoming operation in the district.
Once Jobar and Harasta are secured, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies will have completely cleared the eastern districts of Damascus, putting an end to the five year long battle in this part of the capital.
