BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:40 P.M.) – A Syrian military officer told Al-Masdar News on Tuesday that if the Turkish-backed rebels do not expel the jihadists from western Aleppo, they will take matters into their own hands.

“We will start a new operation if the terrorists stay in west Aleppo,” the source told Al-Masdar News from the province.

The ‘terrorists’ mentioned in the quote is a direct reference to Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (formerly Jaysh Al-Fateh and Jabhat Al-Nusra).

“We have the numbers and weapons needed to destroy the terrorists. We are letting Russia work with Turkey to resolve the issue. If they do not retake their lost ground, we will,” he added.

The Syrian Arab Army recently sent a large number of reinforcements to the provincial capital of Aleppo after Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham captured the entire western countryside of the province.

Despite these threats, it is unlikely that the Syrian Arab Army would launch any attack without the authorization of the Russian military, who is already embedded with their forces in the Aleppo province.
