BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:50 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) struck back against the Islamic State (ISIL) this morning, following an intense battle on Thursday that resulted in a stalemate after the terrorist group launched a big assault.
Led by the Tiger Forces and Qalamoun Shield, the Syrian Arab Army stormed the area south of Sheikh Hilal, advancing into three towns that were under the control of the Islamic State for the last two years.
According to a military source in Hama, the Syrian Arab Army liberated the towns of Salibah, Mukayman Al-Shamali, and Tal Al-Albawi after overrunning the Islamic State’s defenses in the southern countryside of Sheikh Hilal.
As a result of this advance, the Syrian Arab Army has moved closer to the Islamic State’s stronghold of ‘Uqayrbat, leaving them 9km north of this strategic crossroads town in eastern Hama.
