DAMASCUS, SYRIA (3:30 P.M.) – Syrian government forces continue their military operation aimed at encircling the last stronghold of the Islamic State in Aleppo province.
Today, government troops, backed by heavy Syrian and Russian airstrikes, recaptured several villages from ISIS, including al-Bouajouz, Qasr al-Bouajouz, Kharab al-Khadhraf and the “Fourth Farm” located to the west of the strategic town of Maskanah.
The recent advance brings the Syrian Army ever closer to encircling Maskanah from three sides, thus leaving only one exit for the terror group to retreat to the southeast. The successful prosecution of outflanking Maskanah from three directions may force ISIS to retreat from the town in order to avoid annihilation.
Sensing this imminent threat, the Islamic State has already began evacuating the families of its fighters to Raqqa – the terror group’s de-facto capital.
With these most recent advances, clashes between government forces and ISIS have reached to within a few kilometers of Maskanah.
