It has been nearly two weeks since the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division has advanced inside the Aleppo Governorate’s southern countryside; however, they were keen on making up for the lost time, storming the Al-Rashiddeen 5 Neighborhood that was under the control of the Islamist rebels from Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, and Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki.
The Syrian Arab Army’s 43rd and 154th Brigades of the 4th Mechanized Division – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) – imposed full control over the Sawmill Factory and its surrounding farms inside the town of Al-Rashiddeen after a series of violent firefights on Monday morning in southern Aleppo.
According to a battlefield journalist embedded with the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division, the Syrian Armed Forces are currently advancing inside the Al-Rashiddeen 5 Neighborhood after capturing the Al-Rashiddeen 4 Neighborhood from the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham two weeks ago.
The town of Al-Rashiddeen is located just south of the Aleppo Governorate’s provincial capital; it is considered the gateway to the strategic town of Khan Al-‘Assal, which was captured by the Islamist rebels from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in late 2013.
If the Syrian Armed Forces seize both Al-Rashiddeen and Khan Al-‘Assal, they will have effectively sealed off the southern sector of the provincial capital, leaving the Islamist rebels with only one major supply route along the Hariteen Highway.
