DEIR EZZOR, SYRIA (10:30 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) struck back against the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham in the southwestern countryside of Deir Ezzor on Saturday after spending the last two weeks on the defensive.
The Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Brigade of the 17th Reserve Division led the assault against the Islamic State on Saturday, striking the latter’s positions at the southern outskirts of the 137th Brigade’s headquarters,
According to an Al-Masdar correspondent in Damascus, the Syrian Armed Forces destroyed 3 armored vehicles that belonged to the Islamic State, while also killing several of the terrorist group’s combatants at the southern outskirts of the 137th Brigade’s HQ.
The Syrian Armed Forces managed to clear much of area around the 137th Brigade’s HQ, inflicting heavy damage on the Islamic State’s defenses as well.
Meanwhile, outside the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard and the 71st Regiment of the 3rd Armored Division recaptured several farms in the villages of Jafra and Muri’iyah, marking the first time in several weeks that they have reestablished a presence in this area.
