The Syrian Arab Army’s 43rd and 63rd brigades of the 4th Mechanized Division reportedly entered Quraytayn on Saturday for the first time since August of 2015 when they retreated from this strategic city in the southeastern countryside of the Homs Governorate.
Despite their entry into Quraytayn, the Syrian Armed Forces withdrew from the western perimeter after failing to establish a foothold inside the city on Saturday evening.
However, the Syrian Armed Forces were able to tighten the siege around Quraytayn by liberating several areas under the control of the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham, paving the way for a three prong attack on the city.
According to a military source at the T-4 Military Airport, the Syrian Armed Forces – led by the 64th Regiment of the 4th Mechanized Division and 67th Brigade of the 18th Tank Division – liberated Sin Al-Kharoubi Al-Kabeer, Al-Hazzm Al-Abyad, and the Northern Quraytayn Farms.
As a result of these gains on Saturday, the Syrian Armed Forces are in position to enter Quraytayn from several flanks.
Saturday was the first time the Russian military advisers and Air Force participated in the battle for Quraytayn.
