BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:30 A.M.) – Not long after the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced the full liberation of Al-Sukhnah, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) resumed their field operations east of the city, liberating several sites from the Islamic State (ISIL) terrorists.

Led by their elite 5th Corps, the Syrian Arab Army plowed through the enemy defenses in eastern Al-Sukhnah, seizing several hilltops overlooking the Sukhnah-Deir Ezzor Highway.

In addition to their advance along this highway, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies from Liwaa Fatemiyoun (Iranian-Afghani paramilitary) scored a new advance in Al-Sukhnah’s northwestern countryside.

According to a military source in Palmyra, the Syrian Army managed to liberate a number of points along the ‘Uqayrbat-Sukhnah Road after a brief battle with the Islamic State terrorists in the area.

The source added that the Syrian military is now concentrating their efforts on clearing the remaining Islamic State pocket in central Syria.
