On Monday morning in the Dara’a Governorate’s northern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 15th Brigade of the 5th Armored Division – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) and the SAA’s 7th Mechanized Division – captured a dozen building blocks inside of Sheikh Miskeen’s southern district after a violent battle with the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA).
This advance at Sheikh Miskeen comes just 24 hours after the Syrian Arab Army’s 15th Brigade and their allies captured a total of 17 buildings at the northern rim of the city’s southern district.
Currently, the Syrian Armed Forces control between 75-80 percent of Sheikh Miskeen, leaving only the southern district left to capture; however, this is no easy task, as the Islamsit rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army are heavily embedded in the remaining buildings.
Helping the Syrian Arab Army from above is the Russian Air Force, who continuously bombards the Islamist rebels with a number of airstrikes along the Nawa-Sheikh Miskeen Road.
If the Syrian Arab Army’s 15th Brigade and their allies are successful in taking control of Sheikh Miskeen, they will be in position to strike the second largest city in the Dara’a Governorate: Nawa.
