BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:15 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) had their hands full in Deir Ezzor this weekend, as the Islamic State (ISIL) forces launched several attacks in-and-around the provincial capital.
With pressure mounting on their forces in eastern Homs, the Islamic State carried out several attacks against the Syrian Arab Army in Deir Ezzor to alleviate the pressure on their comrades under attack near Palmyra.
ISIL began their large attack on Friday morning, when their forces stormed the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses around the Panorama Roundabout in the western outskirts of the city.
For 48 straight hours, the Islamic State attempted to break-through the Syrian Arab Army’s fortifications around the Panorama Roundabout, 137th Artillery Brigade Base, and Deir Ezzor Military Airport; however, they would ultimately fail to make any headway.
According to a Syrian military source at the Deir Ezzor Airport, Sunday has been relatively quiet in the provincial capital, as most of the ISIL forces have retreated from their offensive positions.
