The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) large-scale offensive in the Deir Ezzor Governorate is officially over after a long 3 day battle that concluded with the aforementioned terrorist group retreating from all of the points they captured.
Initially, ISIS was able to seize several points from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) inside Al-Jafra following a violent battle at this village that is situated near the southeastern corner of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport.
However, the Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Artillery Brigade of the 17th Reserve Division would later recapture the initiative and reclaim all of the points they conceded to the ISIS terrorists storming Al-Jafra and the Deir Ezzor Military Airport.
In addition to repelling the terrorist group’s assault at Al-Jafra and the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, the Syrian Arab Army also beat back the ISIS forces that were trying to capture the Euphrates University compounds in the Al-Baghayliyah District.
According to a local source, ISIS arrested as many as 20 civilians inside Deir Ezzor; they were accused of helping the government.
