BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:10 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has declared the Homs-Salamiyah Road safe to use again for civilians after they repelled a massive assault by the jihadist rebels of Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham (formerly Al-Nusra Front) last night.
Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham began a wide-scale assault in southwestern Salamiyah last night, targeting three villages under the Syrian Arab Army’s control along the Homs-Salamiyah.
Initially, Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham was able to seize two checkpoints from the National Defense Forces (NDF) near Khunayfis; however, they were unable to hold these gains when Syrian Arab Army reinforcements arrived from Salamiyah.
The reinforcements from the Syrian Arab Army’s 11th Tank Division helped drive back the jihadist rebels to their previous front-lines in southwestern Salamiyah, ending the latter’s offensive operations last night.
