BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:20 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) resumed their offensive in the Palmyra countryside this morning, targeting the Islamic State’s (ISIL) positions east of the Talilah Crossroad.
Led by the 5th Legion and 18th Tank Division, the Syrian Arab Army attacked an Islamic State outpost along the main road to the strategic T-3 Pumping Station that is located directly east of this desert area.
No gains have been reported by the Syrian Arab Army.
The Syrian Arab Army’s primary objective of pushing east from the Talilah Crossroad is the capture of the T-3 Pumping Station, which is an imperative site along the road to southwestern Deir Ezzor.
If the Syrian Army is successful in capturing the T-3 Pumping Station, they could ultimately cutoff the Free Syrian Army (FSA) from the provincial capital.
