BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:15 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has dispatched several units to the Palmyra front in eastern Homs following a string of Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) attacked between this ancient city and Al-Sukhnah.
The arrival of these reinforcements comes as the Islamic State sleeper cells in the Badiya Al-Sham region increase their attacks across this vast desert area.
Since early May, the Islamic State has killed over 120 soldiers from the Syrian Arab Army and National Defense Forces (NDF). These losses have prompted the Syrian Army’s high command to dispatch reinforcements to this desert front to quell these attacks.
However, despite the increase in numbers, the Syrian Army has been unable to clear these Islamic State cells that are stretched across the mountains in this desert region.
