BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:30 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) sent reinforcements to the central region of Syria after Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) launched new attacks in the Badiya Al-Sham.

According to a source, the Syrian Army sent reinforcements to the desert area between the ancient city of Palmyra and the large town of Al-Sukhnah in eastern Homs.

These reinforcements were sent to the desert of eastern Homs after the Islamic State ambushed a group of Syrian Arab Army and Hezbollah soldiers near the city of Palmyra.

As a result of this attack, at least four Syrian Army soldiers and one Hezbollah fighter were killed.

The Syrian Arab Army has been forced to shift their attention to this vast desert region after the Islamic State’s string of losses in the eastern region of the Euphrates River Valley.

A source told Al-Masdar earlier this week that an estimated 1,500-3,000 Islamic State terrorists are believed to be active in the Badiya Al-Sham region, which is located in central Syria.

Syria has had 6 months since they reclaimed control of Daraa Provence to deal with this region but they have not. The Syrian and Russian air forces sat on the ground while they could have been attacking ISIS in force in the Badiya Al-Sham. This problem has to be dealt with sometime and it was a big mistake not to have done it while things were on hold in Idlib. Let’s hope that they will do so now.

Reinforcements ? What for ? Just to stay there waiting until a car bomb detonate of their face ?, and then call for more reinforcements ? Good tactic !!

The Badiya has been ignored too often, too long.
The thousands of Daesh holed up there pose a permanent, if opportunistic, threat to Syria. At any time the Americans in al-Tanf and al-Zuqf can seriously aggravate the situation.
Priority should be to clear the Badiya before the definitive liberation of Idlib.
