Soldiers from the 42nd Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division

BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:50 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched another powerful assault in the Wadi Barada area on Thursday, targeting the jihadist rebel positions at the village of Bassima.

Led by the 42nd Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division, the Syrian Arab Army broke-through Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham’s (formerly Al-Nusra Front) defenses on Thursday, seizing Bassima after a violent battle with the jihadist rebels.

With Bassima under their control, the Syrian Arab Army reached the gates of the Al-Fijah Springs, marking the first time in several years that the government has had any presence at this site.

If the Syrian Army is successful in this military endeavor, then they will be in position to fix the springs and return water to the estimated 5 million civilians in the capital city and Greater Damascus area.
