BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:30 A.M.) – The 5th Assault Corps of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continues to make advances around the strategic town of al-Sukhnah in Homs Governorate, now not only east in the direction of Deir Ezzor, but also – as of yesterday – north towards Tiger Forces units pushing down from al-Taybah.
After the SAA’s elite Tiger Forces liberated the crossroad town of al-Taybah and secured the Minshar mountain (both located to the north of al-Sukhnah) yesterday, army units of the 5th Assault Corps (stationed in the area of al-Sukhnah) started an operation to advance north of the strategic town and link-up with the Tiger Forces.
The operation is being carried out to hasten the planned besieging of ISIS militants in the eastern Homs region.
The last confirmed reports put the forward-most units of the 5th Assault Corps leading the operation some ten kilometers to the northeast of al-Sukhnah where they have so far secured a string of hills and key points.
