BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:40 P.M.) – Heavy shelling struck the district of al-Hajar al-Aswad, to the south of Damascus on Saturday, as the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) worked to gain further ground against the remaining members of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) still in the capital.
On Saturday, the Syrian Army and their Palestinian allies liberated the entire Al-Qadam District of southern Damascus, forcing the Islamic State terrorists to fully retreat to Hajar Al-Aswad.
With Al-Qadam secured, the Syrian Army and their Palestinian allies can now concentrate on the last areas under ISIS controlled.
The offensive comes after the Syrian military announced the full recapture of Eastern Ghouta from militants late last month.
