BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:40 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continued their counter-operations in the western countryside of Palmyra on Friday, targeting the Islamic State’s positions around the strategic T-4 Military Airport that is situated along the Palmyra-Homs Highway.
Led by the 800th Battalion of the Republican Guard and Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army managed to liberated the village of Sharifah after overwhelming the remaining Islamic State elements to the west of the T-4 Airport.
Following the liberation of Sharifah, the Syrian Arab Army allowed the Russian Air Force to hammer the Islamic State’s defenses near the T-4 Pumping Station, paving the way for the 800th Battalion’s eventual assault northeast of this installation in the Syrian Desert.
According to a military source at the T-4 Airport, the Syrian Arab Army liberated more hilltops near Tal Sha’rah, killing and wounding an estimated 25+ Islamic State terrorists in the process of this advance on Friday.
In the coming days, more reinforcements from the Tiger Forces are expected to arrive in order to launch the much needed offensive to liberate the gas fields in northern Palmyra.
