BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:15 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is preparing to launch its largest attack on Daraa city of this seven year long war, a military source told Al-Masdar News this morning.
According to the military source, the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Division and Republican Guard are in position to launch the attack on the provincial capital, but they are awaiting the go-ahead from their high command.
The source said the attack is geared at capturing the southern districts of Daraa city, which are currently under the control of the Free Syrian Army’s (FSA) Southern Front Brigades and Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham.
Unlike the recent battle in the Lajat region, the Syrian Arab Army’s offensive in the provincial capital will be much more difficult and great deal more violent.
The rebel forces in the provincial capital are not only well-trained, they are well-supplied with high-end military equipment.
The Syrian Arab Army is going to try and cut the rebel supply route to the provincial capital.
If they are successful, they will likely attempt to convince the rebel forces to surrender their positions inside the town in order to avoid a potential siege.
