BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:35 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has officially liberated the strategic town of ‘Uqayribat in the eastern countryside of Hama, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced tonight.

What started as a large advance from the Jubb Al-Jarrah District quickly turned into the complete envelopment of ‘Uqayribat by the Syrian Arab Army this week.

‘Uqayribat was captured by the Islamic State in the Fall of 2014, when their forces launched a major offensive in Hama’s Salamiyah District.

With ‘Uqayribat liberated, the Syrian Arab Army is now in control of almost all of central Syria, which means the Islamic State’s last stand will be in the Deir Ezzor Governorate.
