BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:15 A.M.) – Forward units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in eastern Homs Governorate have scored a rapid and worthy advance in the direction Deir Ezzor.
The push not only led to the securing of imperative high-ground, but also resulted in the death of many ISIS militants and the destruction of a number of tanks and vehicles belonging to the terrorist group.
Yesterday, army forces advanced some thirty kilometers east of the strategic town of al-Sukhnah and secured from ISIS the key hill of al-Itsalat (generically referred to as the SyriaTel hill due to the presence of telecommunications equipment on it).
ISIS attempted to fight back against this push by the SAA and the resulting clashes led to heavy losses on the jihadist faction’s manpower and military equipment.
According to a military source exclusive to Al-Masdar News, in excess of 20 ISIS fighters were killed and injured in the area of the al-Itsalat hill. Furthermore, the SAA also destroyed three Toyota pickups armed with large-caliber machine guns and seized a tank that was abandoned when ISIS withdrew from the hill.
By this advance, Syrian forces are now about 25 kilometers away from the provincial border between Homs and Deir Ezzor Governorates.
