BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:15 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) resumed their offensive operations in the Deir Ezzor Governorate on Thursday, targeting the cemetery area under the control of the Islamic State (ISIS).

Led by the Al-Qassem Group and 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard, the Syrian Arab Army stormed the cemetery area, liberating several points in the eastern part of this provincial site in western Deir Ezzor.

According to a military source in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army managed to advance in the cemetery area after Russian jets pounded the Islamic State’s defenses, clearing a path for their Republican Guard forces to push past the terrorist group’s defenses.

As a result of today’s gains, the Syrian Arab Army is now in control of approximately 65 percent of the cemetery, leaving only a small distance for them to liberate before lifting the siege on the airport.
