DAMASCUS, SYRIA (11:25 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) resumed their West Ghouta offensive on Thursday after foiling a major jihadist assault near the key town of Khan Al-Sheih yesterday morning.
Led by the 42nd Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division, the Syrian Arab Army launched a powerful attack from two different axes north and east of Khan Al-Sheih, resulting in the capture of 800 meters worth of territory.
According to an Al-Masdar field correspondent, the SYrian Arab Army captured the Sukayk Farms outside of Khan Al-Sheih, leaving them just 300 meters away from the gates of this jihadist stronghold.
The military source added that the Syrian Arab Army was aided by the Russian and Syrian air forces on Thursday,, as their relentless bombardment opened up the jihadist defenses and paved the way for their ground forces to advance.
Khan Al-Sheih is fully under the control of Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham (formerly Al-Nusra Front); however, over the last few weeks, the Syrian Arab Army has gained considerable ground near this town, leaving them at the doorsteps of this jihadist stronghold in the West Ghouta region of rural Damascus.
