BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:05 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) made their first push towards the Al-Raqqa Governorate this year, targeting the Islamic State’s (ISIS) positions in the southeastern countryside of Aleppo.

Backed Russian airstrikes, the Syrian Arab Army and National Defense Forces (NDF) managed to liberate a number of villages in the Khanasser Plain, creating a large buffer-zone around the government’s only supply route to the Aleppo Governorate.

According to a military source in Aleppo, the Syrian Arab Army is making a push to the Islamic State’s heartland in the Maskanah Plain;  if they successfully reach this area, they will be in position to enter the Al-Raqqa Governorate for the first time since their failed offensive last year.

Perhaps there is no better time to launch this offensive in east Aleppo for the Syrian Army, as the Islamic State has gambled a lot by carrying out their latest large-scale assault in Deir Ezzor.

Buena estrategia, ISIS está concentrado en Deir-Ezzur, el ejercito debe avanzar hasta donde pueda y asegurar las defensas.

Not sure about this, I think what they are on currently is what they should be focusing on. Just me though.

On exactly what I considered they should do for a LONG while (and repeated this a few days ago. creating a kill zone between the two lakes… Actually they should have made a joint effort with SDF last year at the same time Manbij was retaken by SDF, to rush from the Efrin canton and do the link. Lots of time (and lives) lost.

Timely operational offensive. Dai’sh cannot defend across open countryside and have almost no fixed positional defenses between ITHRIYAH and TABQA airbase and dam. SAA could assemble and mount a 2-3 battalion task force, with SP arty and air in close support to advance east , to link up with the Tiger Brigade after Deir Hafer and Jirah airbase are re-taken, thus developing a pincer movement on Raqqa from NW and SW. Early days but Dai’sh are over-extended and hard pressed in these areas, once they lose Deir Hafer they are finished in the Al-Bab pocket. Good times are coming.

this is right time to target isil in raqqa and palmayra so isil will be divided and become weak in dier zor so it can push them otu bcus isil have very little time. palmayra offensive should coninue till dier zor city nonstop.to open the road supply. its hard but can be done.
