BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:10 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) caught the Islamist rebels of Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) off-guard in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus on Thursday morning, capturing several farms near the key town of Hazrama.
Led by the 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard, the Syrian Arab Army managed to break-through Jaysh Al-Islam’s first line of defense at the Hazrama Farms, killing and wounding a large number of militants from Jaysh Al-Islam in the process of this advance.
As a result of these gains on Thursday morning, the Syrian Arab Army is now at the fringes of Hazrama, leaving Jaysh Al-Islam with their backs against the wall ahead of the alleged nationwide ceasefire that was agreed upon by the Turkish and Russian governments.
The Syrian Arab Army’s surprise attack in the East Ghouta this morning comes just 30 hours after the Russian Air Force carried out a powerful airstrike on an Islamist command meeting in the East Ghouta.
