BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:50 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA), alongside the National Defense Forces (NDF), carried out a surprise military operation in the southeastern countryside of Aleppo on Thursday, targeting two villages located east of the strategic Khanasser Highway.
According to local media, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies liberated the villages Jdeideh and Umm Miyal after a short battle with the Islamic State terrorists in this part of the southeast Aleppo.
The Syrian Arab Army originally liberated these villages last year, when their forces stormed the Islamic State’s positions east of the Khanasser Highway; however, they would ultimately concede control of both Jdeideh and Umm Miyal after the terrorist group carried out a swift counter-assault.
Should the Syrian Army launch an operation to liberate Deir Hafer at the same time they push east of Khanasser, then they have a good chance of reaching the Maskanah Plain that feeds into the Al-Raqqa Governorate.
