BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:50 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a big assault around the Islamic State’s stronghold of Al-Sukhnah, Saturday, targeting the terrorist group’s positions at Tantour Mountain.
Backed by heavy artillery and Russian airstrikes, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Corps stormed Tantour Mountain, where they were met with heavy resistance from the Islamic State forces present in the Al-Sukhnah area.
The Syrian Army would take full control of Tantour Mountain late this afternoon, following the Islamic State’s subsequent withdrawal to Al-Sukhnah.
With Tantour Mountain under their control, the Syrian Army now has a clear path into the western part of Al-Sukhnah, along with the territorial advantage.
