BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:45 P.M.) – The Syrian Army (SAA) achieved a major victory in southeast Syria, today, following the complete collapse of the Islamic State (ISIS) near the T-2 Pumping Station.
Led by their 5th Legion, the Syrian Arab Army began this major operation at the start of the week, with the primary focus being the elimination of the Islamic State pocket along Iraqi border.
The operation would heat up over the last few days, as the Syrian Arab Army managed to crack the Islamic State’s lines and liberate the entire Iraqi border region located just east of the Al-Tanf Green Zone.
On Wednesday, the Syrian Army was able to finally clear the Islamic State’s pocket after overrunning the terrorist forces and killing their remaining militants in this desert region.
According to a Syrian military report, the Syrian Arab Army liberated the following sites from the Islamic State in the last 48 hours: Tal Al-Kabad, Al-‘Akfan Well, Bi’r Al-‘Akfan, Taloul Al-Habari, Bi’r Al-Tayyarah, Bi’r Al-Ward, Bi’r Zweid, Bi’r Al-Samadiyah, Bi’r Al-‘Atshan, Al-‘Atshan Well, Bi’r Sijar, Bi’r Al-Batihiyah, Sid Al-Wa’ar, and Bi’r Makar Al-Wa’ar.
With this area liberated, the Syrian Army has secured much of the area around the T-2 Pumping Station and the Iraqi border region.
As a result of this advance, the Syrian Army liberated more than 2,500 square kilometers of territory within a week.
