BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:05 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) resumed their large scale offensive in central Syria, Saturday, targeting the Islamic State’s (ISIL) positions along the Rusafa-Ithriya axis.

Backed by the Russian Air Force, the Syrian Arab Army attacked the Bir Tuwaynan and Bir Qadim areas in southern Al-Raqqa, resulting in a series of intense clashes with the Islamic State terrorists.

Not long after launching the attack, the Syrian Arab Army managed to break-through the Islamic State’s lines, forcing the terrorist group to withdraw from both the Bir Tuwaynan and Bir Qadim areas.

The aforementioned areas are located along the main road to the former Islamic State stronghold of Al-Sukhnah; their liberation on Sunday has further secured the Ithriya-Salamiyah Highway.
