BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:50 A.M.) – Syrian Arab Army (SAA) fighters retook control over much of the Arak Gas Field in the central province of Homs, Thursday, recapturing the territory from self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL).
Backed by heavy Russian airstrikes, the Syrian Arab Army has been able to penetrate the Islamic State’s main line of defense, putting them in position to capture the remaining territory under the terrorist group’s control at the Arak Gas Field.
Footage showed SAA troops firing artillery shots, roaming the area and discovering tents and buildings allegedly occupied by IS fighters.
In the coming days, the Syrian Arab Army should take control of this site, as they continue to recapture hilltops overlooking this site near the Homs-Deir Ezzor Highway.
