BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:20 P.M.) The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has liberated approximately 85 percent of terrorist-occupied territories in Syria, the Chief of Staff of the Russian Armed Forces in Syria, Lt. Gen. Alexander Lapin, told reporters on Tuesday.

“At present, 85 percent of the Syrian territory has been liberated from the militants of illegal armed formations. About 27 square kilometers [10,424 square miles] of Syrian territory remains to be liberated until the complete annihilation of the Daesh terrorists group [ISIS/ISIL/IS outlawed in Russia],” Lapin said.

The Syrian military is currently on the offensive in several areas across Syria, including the imperative Deir Ezzor Governorate that borders western Iraq.

Once the Deir Ezzor Governorate is cleared of Da’esh terrorists, all that will remain occupied is a small pocket in central Syria.
