BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:45 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) large-scale offensive against the Islamic State (ISIS) has gotten off to a strong start, as they have managed to liberate several areas from the terrorist group inside the Sweida Governorate.
Backed by heavy airstrikes from the Russian Aerospace Forces, the Syrian Arab Army managed to reach the strategic Al-Safa Canyon, today, after a fierce battle with the Islamic State.
In addition to reaching the Al-Safa Canyon region, the Syrian Arab Army also liberated the Ard Al-Kara’ area, putting them in position to strike another Islamic State stronghold in northeastern Sweida.
As a result of these advances, the Syrian Arab Army has now liberated more than 2,000 square kilometers of ISIS-occupied territory in the Badiya Al-Sham region of east Sweida.
The Syrian Arab Army is now working to secure the last hilltops near the Al-Kara’ region before they begin the second phase of their offensive.
