BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:30 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army’s elite 4th Armored Division unleashed a powerful assault on the jihadist stronghold of Kabani in northeastern Latakia this morning.
Led by their 42nd Brigade (Ghiath Forces), the Syrian Arab Army fired dozens of missiles from their Golan-1000 launcher towards Kabani and its surrounding hilltops.
According to a military source near the front-lines, the Syrian Arab Army resumed their assault on northeast Latakia after the jihadist rebels attempted to bomb the Hmeimim Airbase this morning.
The source added that the Russian Air Force is likely to respond to the Hmeimim attack as well; they previously struck Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham’s positions inside Kabani after the jihadists launched their drone attack.
The Syrian Arab Army has recently intensified their attacks on Kabani and its surroundings as they prepare to storm the area in a bid to expel the remaining jihadists from the Latakia Governorate.
Kabani has been under the control of the jihadist rebels since 2012, when they seized a large portion of northeastern Latakia.
For the Syrian Army, capturing Kabani is an important military endeavor because of its proximity to the Idlib Governorate and the Al-Ghaab Plain.
