Daraa, Syria (8:35 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division launched a surprise offensive on Friday, targeting the Free Syrian Army’s (FSA) defenses at the ‘Ibta Military Base that is located southeast of Sheikh Miskeen.

Following a series of intense clashes with the Free Syrian Army, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division managed to impose full control over the  ‘Ibta Military Base in Daraa, forcing the rebel forces to retreat to the reconciled town of ‘Ibta in order to avoid casualties.

Agitated over its loss, the Free Syrian Army launched a counter-attack to recapture the military base, leading to an intense battle that is still ongoing between the two opposing parties.

The Syrian Arab Army’s attack at the ‘Ibta Military Base on Friday marks the first time in nearly 6 months that the government has taken the offensive agains the Free Syrian Army in the Daraa Governorate.

Glad they are finally taking the initiative. They must take advantage of the battles to destroy as many rebel militants as possible.

o*g! What are these idiots doing!?? They already got enough fronts open like in Aleppo, Latakia, East Homs, East Ghouta, Hama,… and they are opening yet another front! And all that while they face huge shortage of men! One would wonder if these geniuses are working against the government!

Fifth Column I think! The Southern rebels have been foolish enough to allow the SAA to focus elsewhere, not choosing to capitalise on the chaos and now the SAA randomly gives them the chance, it’s the definition of stupidity. And the surprise attack yielded nothing! One little base that was lost hours later, f*****g pointless!

not necesary, the south front have other human resources….the bastards fron FSA are supported by the jordan scum and the SAA always had one or two divissions there. This offensive will finished soon with positive or negative results. For me the most important is NOT open or re-open a new front with ISIS

Astonishingly stupid move, Tabaqa: The Sequel! Liveumap reported that they lost the air base hours and hours ago, so despite having massive problems in Hama and Aleppo, they’ve awoken the insurgency down south despite it being quiet for months, despite being able to allocate troops there to other fronts. Now they’re going to have to scramble to defend the south when they desperately need the men elsewhere, leading to a far slower rate of progress. Why are the commanders in the SAA so damned incompetent??

mvm199 .

SAA high command is the ultimate definition of retardation. ”Take the initiative” Wasn’t this area under ceasefire? Give the ‘activists’ more free propaganda and keep opening more fronts with your exhausted thinly spread army …. bravo.
