BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:30 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a counter-attack in the eastern countryside of Homs on Thursday night, targeting the so-called “Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) recently captured territory near the strategic town of Jubb Al-Jarrah.

Led by the 11th Tank Division, the Syrian Arab Army launched an attack on Qubbah Hill and several checkpoints east of this site after repelling the Islamic State’s assault at Jubb Al-Jarrah, Maksar Al-Hissan, and Al-Masoudiyah.

Following the commencement of the counter-attack, the Syrian Arab Army managed to seize Qubbah Hill and its corresponding checkpoints, forcing the Islamic State terrorists to retreat towards the small village of Khattab, which is located east of Jubb Al-Jarrah.

With reinforcements from the 18th Tank Division arriving in Jubb Al-Jarrah last night, the Syrian Arab Army launched a powerful assault at Khattab this morning in order to reverse all of the Islamic State’s advances.

According to a military source in east Homs, the Syrian Arab Army killed over 40 Islamic State militants during their counter-attack, while also destroying at least two tanks near Jubb Al-Jarrah.

The battle for Khattab is still ongoing at the moment, as the Syrian Arab Army continues to reverse the jihadist gains in eastern Homs.
