DAMASCUS, SYRIA (4:40 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a surprise attack against the so-called “Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham” (ISIS) in the eastern countryside of Aleppo today, targeting several villages located inside the Al-Bab Plateau.
Led by the Republican Guard, the Syrian Arab Army managed to liberate three villages in eastern Aleppo today, killing several members of the Islamic State amid their first advance east towards Al-Bab.
While the Syrian Armed Forces attacked the Islamic State’s defenses from their positions at Tal Sha’er, the Kurdish-led “Syrian Democratic Forces” (SDF) launched a simultaneous assault from the northern village of Hasseen.
The two separate attacks combined would prove too much for the Islamic State terrorists, as they were forced to retreat east towards Al-Bab in order to avoid being overrun.
Today’s attack in east Aleppo marks the first time since the Kuweries Military Airport offensive in November 2015 that the Syrian Arab Army has expanded eastward in the Al-Bab Plateau.
