The Syrian Arab Army’s Special Forces – backed by the Republican Guard and National Defense Forces (NDF) – carried out a powerful assault inside the Darayya Association Quarter on Wednesday, targeting the Islamist rebels of Ajnad Al-Sham around several neighborhoods in this strategic city.
According to a military source inside the provincial capital of the Rif Dimashq Governorate, the Syrian Armed Forces killed a confirmed 37 militants on Wednesday, while also seizing a large weapons depot that housed a substantial amount of assault rifles, rockets, IED materials, ammunition, and telecommunication equipment.
This military operation inside of Darayya was part of an ongoing battle to weaken the Islamist rebels of Ajnad Al-Sham before they launch their final assault on this strategic city in the West Ghouta of rural Damascus.
Currently, the Islamist rebels are cutoff from their stronghold at the nearby city of Mo’adhimiyah; this has caused several issues for Ajnad Al-Sham and their allies because they are no longer able to freely maneuver in order to resupply and reinforce contested parts of Darayya.
Mo’adhimiyah and Darayya are two of the most important cities in the West Ghouta region of rural Damascus; they are also considered two of the most difficult to seize because of their enclosed buildings that make it hard to maneuver heavy armory.
