The Syrian Arab Army’s 154th Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division – backed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Hezbollah – intensified their shelling of Tal Al-‘Eiss and Al-Zorba on Saturday, launching over 100 mortar shells and rockets towards the rebel positions in southern Aleppo.
Due to the fact that the rebel forces control the high ground at Tal Al-‘Eiss, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies have taken a different approach to combating Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and Jund Al-Aqsa at this volatile front.
With the Russian Air Force pounding the extremist rebels from above, the pro-government forces have relied on their firepower to weaken the enemy resolve in order to force them to abandon their positions once again.
Regardless, the massive buildup of pro-government forces in southern Aleppo has provided great insight into the next military endeavor for Hezbollah and the IRGC.
It appears that the Idlib offensive is finally coming to fruition for the pro-government forces after nearly 4 months of inactivity in order to concentrate on the northern and eastern fronts of Aleppo.
