DAMASCUS, SYRIA (1:30 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) intensified their military operations inside the Deir Ezzor Governorate on Sunday, targeting several sites under the control of the so-called “Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham” (ISIS).
The Syrian Arab Army began the day by shooting down an Islamic State drone that was seen flying over their positions in the Al-Rusafah District.
Not much longer after downing the drone, the Syrian Arab Army’s Al-Qassem Group (Republican Guard) carried out a successful assault against an Islamic State contingent in the Al-‘Arfi District, killing and wounding as many as 10 terrorists while also destroying their base.
Following their successful operation inside the Al-‘Arfi District, the Syrian Arab Army turned their attention to the village of Al-Jafra near the Deir Ezzor Military Airport.
According to a military source in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army’s 119th Regiment reportedly destroyed an Islamic State VBIED (vehicle borne improvised explosive device) and several terrorists during their combing operation.
Elsewhere, the Syrian Air Force carried out several airstrikes over the Thardeh Mountains in southwest Deir Ezzor on Sunday, destroying a number of armored vehicles that belonged to the Islamic State militants.
