BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:30 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army resumed their offensive operations in the western countryside of Palmyra on Thursday after a taking a brief hiatus to reinforce their positions following the liberation of the Hayyan Gas Fields.
Led by the Russian-trained 5th Legion and 18th Tank Division, the Syrian Arab Army managed to liberate more territory in western Palmyra, pushing their way to the Driving School area.
Aiding the Syrian Arab Army units in western Palmyra today is the Russian Air Force, who has already launched more than 20 airstrikes over the Islamic State’s positions in the vast Syrian Desert.
With reinforcements arriving to the western Palmyra countryside, the Syrian Arab Army is expected to launch another major assault in this region in the coming weeks, as they look to liberate the remaining gas fields under the Islamic State’s control.
