On Tuesday morning in the southeastern countryside of the Homs Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army’s 67th, 81st, and 120th brigades – backed by Dara’ Qalamoun (Qalamoun Shield) and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) – liberated several sites near the strategic Assyrian city of Quraytayn after a violent battle with the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS).
According to a battlefield correspondent at the nearby T-4 Military Airport, the Syrian Armed Forces liberated Point 861 and the Southern Quraytayn Farms, killing over 20 enemy combatants from the Islamic State while also destroying 4 armored vehicles and a bulldozer.
In addition to their advance from the southern flank of Quraytayn, the Syrian Armed Forces continued their push towards the western gates of this ancient city after the Russian Air Force hammered ISIS’ defensive positions on Tuesday.
The Russian Air Force has played an integral role in the Syrian Arab Army’s advance over the last 48 hours, striking the ISIS militant repeatedly day and night; this has forced the aforementioned terrorist group to take cover near the Iraqi border-crossing.
Currently, the Syrian Armed Forces are approximately 1.5 km west and 3 km south of the ancient Syriac Christian city of Quraytayn.
