BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:00 P.M.) – Just days after declaring northeast Daraa free of militants, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) established control over most of the eastern part of the province.
According to a military source in the government stronghold of Izraa, the Syrian Arab Army was able to expand control over more areas in eastern Daraa after a reconciliation meeting with several local community leaders.
Among the localities that agreed to reconcile with the government was the town of Al-Karak, which is located just south of recently captured Al-Hirak.
A source from the Syrian Arab Army told Al-Masdar earlier today that the community leaders in Al-Karak had agreed to reconcile with the government after negotiations with a government delegation.
The Syrian military has reportedly entered Al-Karak, but not under hostile terms.
With Al-Karak under a reconciliation deal, the Syrian Arab Army will be able to enter the southeastern countryside of the Daraa Governorate for the first time in years.
The Syrian Army will now turn their attention to the historical city of Busra Al-Sham, which is located just west of the Al-Sweida provincial border.
Busra Al-Sham was captured by the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Jabhat Al-Nusra (now Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham) in late March of 2015.
Most of Busra Al-Sham’s population was displaced as a result of this attack; they were settled in the neighboring Al-Sweida Governorate.
