BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:30 P.M.) – Syrian government forces raised the flag of the Syrian Arab Republic in the Daraa al-Balad District of Daraa city, Thursday, following a week-long battle against the Free Syrian Army (FSA).
As Al-Masdar News reported on Thursday, an important deal was reached with the militants in the southern districts of Daraa to hand over their medium and heavy weaponry, and be either evacuated or settled in the city.
Syrian Arab Army units and government officials on Thursday entered the Daraa al-Balad area of the southwestern city, close to the border with Jordan, carrying the national flag, before hoisting it on a flagpole in the town’s main square.
The newly controlled areas of Daraa had been under the control of militant forces since the beginning of the Syrian conflict in 2011.
With Daraa city under their control, the Syrian Army will now shift their attention to the western countryside of the province, where the rebel forces are preparing to make their last stand.
