BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:43 P.M.) – For the first time ever, the Syrian Army is to deploy T-90 main battle tanks (the best armored combat vehicle available to its slowly modernizing arsenal of weapons) in the eastern Damascus city area.
With the arrival of the elite Tiger Forces Division to Damascus for an imminent offensive against armed rebel groups operating in the city’s East Ghouta region is also coming many T-90 main battle tanks.
The use of these high-end weapons system in the east Damascus region is to be a first ever.
The exact number of T-90s the Tiger Forces Division is bringing with it to Damascus remains unknown. However, going by video evidence – and accounting for the fact that this only represents a fraction of what is the largest Syrian Army convoy ever to be assembled – it appears that least several dozen T-90s will partake in the upcoming operation in East Ghouta.
Even the most basic export models of the T-90 still come with a range of modern technology packages which enhance the tank’s effectiveness on the battlefield; this includes a laser rangefinder, all-degree gun stabilizer, infrared sighting and computerized fire-control system (with automated ballistic solution capabilities).
