BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:00 A.M.) – Troops of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) succeeded in seizing control of several locations on the western slopes of the Qalamoun Mountains, Thursday, in a joint offensive alongside Hezbollah fighters targeting positions of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIL/ISIS).

The SAA and Hezbollah fighters were able to recapture several strategic areas, including Wadi Al-Maghar, Al Kabeer heights, Wadi Al Maghara, Al Sagheer, and Ras Shagoot passage, which extends to Arsal cliffs in the Lebanese territory.

The army will continue targeting IS positions to gain access to the southern cliffs of Qalamoun Mountains.

Over the past few days, the SAA and Hezbollah announced the recapture of ten hilltops in the area of the Qalamoun Mountains including Faleeta Barren, Tal Burkan, Tal al-Kurah al-Awal, Tal Dalel al-Hajj, and Harf al-Sa’bah after fierce clashes with militants.
