On Sunday morning in the West Ghouta region of rural Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army’s Special Forces issued a demand on live speaker to the Islamist rebels of Ajnad Al-Sham, Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in the strategic city of Al-Mo’adhimiyah.
According to a senior military correspondent in the West Ghouta, the Syrian Arab Army’s Special Forces demanded that the Islamist rebels of Ajnad Al-Sham and their affiliates surrender the entire city of Al-Mo’adhimiyah or else the government forces will prepare their final assault on the 700+ militants entrenched inside the southern district.
The city of Al-Mo’adhimiyah has long been an Islamist rebel stronghold in the West Ghouta; it is also on the verge of complete isolation after the Syrian Arab Army’s Special Forces cutoff the last supply route from the nearby city of Darayya during a military operation two weeks ago.
Should the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) besiege Al-Mo’adhimiyah; it will likely result in another truce that will require these Islamist militants to be transported to Idlib in order for the government forces to impose full control of the city.
While this may seem like the least violent method to dissipate the fighting; it will most likely not be the case as the Islamist rebels are determined to hold out as long as they can, despite the overwhelming odds against them .
