BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:50 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) carried out a powerful assault at the eastern outskirts of the Palmyra Military Airport today, striking the remaining Islamic State (ISIS) forces hanging around the ancient city.
Led by the Russian-trained 5th Legion and 18th Tank Division, the Syrian Arab Army managed to push the terrorist forces at least 2km east of the Palmyra Military Airport, killing and wounding several Islamic State militants this afternoon.
As a result of this assault, the Syrian Arab Army has secured the Palmyra Airport and forced many Islamic State terrorists to retreat to the grain silos east of the city.
The Syrian Arab Army’s next task in east Palmyra will be to liberate these grain silos; if they fail to do so, then ISIS can reenter the ancient city from its eastern flank.
