BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:45 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) high command announced on Wednesday the full liberation of the vast Syrian Desert from the so-called Islamic State (ISIS).
According to the Syrian Army’s official statement, their troop fully secured the Badiya Al-Sham region that is located between eastern Homs and eastern Deir Ezzor.
The statement claimed the Syrian Arab Army liberated a total of 5,700 square kilometers of territory that was once occupied by the terrorists of the Islamic State.
In addition to securing 5,700 square km of territory, the high command also claimed that tens of Islamic State terrorists were recently killed and more than 15 of their vehicles were destroyed.
With this announcement by the high command , the Syrian Arab Army has fully secured the Palmyra-Deir Ezzor Highway for the first time since the battle for eastern Syria began.
The Syrian Arab Army is now reestablishing checkpoints around the roads in this desert territory in order to secure this region.
This is good news for the Syrian Arab Army because they can now redeploy their troops from the 3rd and 5th legions to more pressing fronts.
One of these fronts that could use these reinforcements is southwest Syria, which is now the site of the most intense fighting inside the country.
